Al-Haress, الحارس [The Guardian], was an Arabic-language illustrated periodical newspaper published and edited by Amin Ghorayeb, located on Gourad Street, Beirut, Lebanon, in 1923 and was later revived in São Paulo, Brazil, in the early 1950s, until it ceased publication.
Al-Haress was initially published as small booklets on every 1st and 15th of the month. Notably, the publishers encouraged their subscribers to retain their bi-weekly booklets so they could be bound annually into collected volumes.
Amin Mansur Shahin Ghorayeb (1881–1971) was a Lebanese journalist, poet, and translator whose life and work connected to Lebanon, New York, and Brazil. He emigrated to New York in 1903, where he founded the newspaper Al-Muhajir (The Emigrant). Later, he returned to Beirut, where he published the bi-weekly illustrated Arabic-language periodical titled Al-Haress (The Guardian). The newspaper covered topics such as politics, history, literature, agriculture, science, and trade.
Al-Haress Newspaper collection includes fifteen volumes with several issues dating from April 15, 1923, to February 1, 1957.
