This collection contains newspaper materials titled “Souria Al-Jadidah.” Founded on March 11, 1939, in São Paulo, Brazil, the articles in this collection span from Volume 1 to Volume 3, which were published between the years 1939 and 1941.
“Souria Al-Jadidah” served to communicate news from the Middle East to the Syrian and Arab diaspora in Brazil during a time when Palestinian periodicals were faced with intense censorship. Since “Souria Al-Jadidah” was cited as a source for news from neighboring countries, it helped avoid the local censorship other publications faced. The press promoted political activism and charity work within the Syrian and Lebanese communities in the diaspora.
"Souria Al-Jadidah" translates to "The New Syria" in English, سورية الجديدة.
This collection contains “Souria Al-Jadidah” newspaper articles from 1939-1941, including volumes 1 through 3, and issues 1 through 125.
This collection is arranged chronologically.
