These photographs were originally in the possession of Kenneth W. Pierce, and at least two photos show him.

During World War II, North Carolina State College (now North Carolina State University) hosted a number of U.S. military training units. Included in these were the U.S. Army Air Force 59th College Training Detachment, the U.S. Army Specialized Training Program, and the U.S. Navy Diesel Program. Kenneth W. Pierce (originally from East Walpole, Mass.) was stationed here in 1944 for training, probably in the 59th College Training Detachment.
