The SYMBOL 2-R Computer Documents, Reports, and Manuals collection includes manuals, dissertations, and reports produced by Iowa State University and documents from the Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corporation about the SYMBOL 2-R computer.
The Cyclone Computer Laboratory at Iowa State University operated the SYMBOL 2-R computer. Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corporation began as a manufacturer of aircrafts and aerial cameras, but eventually became known for manufacturing semiconductors.
The Cyclone Computer Laboratory at Iowa State University operated the SYMBOL 2-R computer. ISU built the original Cyclone, a vacuum-tube computer, in the 1950s as a high-speed, general purpose digital computer based on the University of Illinois' ILLIAC (Illinois Automatic Computer). In 1970, ISU purchased the SYMBOL-2R computer.
Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corporation began as a manufacturer of aircrafts and aerial cameras. They expanded to manufacturing other military equipment during World War II. Beginning in the 1950s, the company invested in new technologies, with their Research and Development Laboratory based in Palo Alto, California. The company became known for manufacturing semiconductors.
The Symbol 2-R Computer Documents, Reports, and Manuals collection includes manuals, dissertations, and reports produced by Iowa State University and documents from the Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corporation about the SYMBOL 2-R computer. This computer allowed for simultaneous users at multiple terminals via timesharing.
