The R. L. Rabb Papers, 1944-1996, contains slides, published articles, handwritten notes, research files, student files, transparencies, photographs, course outlines and other items related to R. L. Rabb's research and teaching in entomology. Materials are dated from 1944 to 1996.

R. L. (Robert Lamar) Rabb attended North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) and received his Bachelor’s degree in 1947, his Master’s degree in 1950, and in 1953 one of the first Ph.D. degrees in entomology conferred by North Carolina State College. As a student, Rabb joined the Department of Entomology as an Assistant Entomologist. After he graduated, the Department hired Rabb as Assistant Professor. Rabb stayed with NCSU until his retirement in 1983. Rabb was a pioneer in developing ecologically sound approaches to insect pest management

Biographical/historical note

R. L. (Robert Lamar) Rabb attended North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) and received his Bachelor’s degree in 1947, his Master’s degree in 1950, and in 1953 one of the first Ph.D. degrees in entomology conferred by North Carolina State College.

As a student, Rabb joined the Department of Entomology as an Assistant Entomologist. After he graduated, the Department hired Rabb as Assistant Professor. Rabb stayed with North Carolina State University until his retirement in 1983. He was named a William Neal Reynolds Professor in 1981. Rabb was a pioneer in developing ecologically sound approaches to insect pest management. He was the author of numerous publications in his field of work.

R. L. Rabb became a member of the Entomological Society of America in 1951. In 1982 he became the president of SEB-ESA (Southeastern Branch, Entomological Society of America.)

Robert Lamar Rabb was born on August 6, 1919 in Lenoir, North Carolina, and died on July 31, 2006, at the Carolina Meadows Retirement Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

The R. L. Rabb Papers, 1944-1996, contains slides, published articles, handwritten notes, research files, student files, transparencies, photographs, course outlines and other items related to R. L. Rabb's research and teaching in entomology. Materials are dated from 1944 to 1996.
