The Roger A. Powell Papers consist of materials documenting the tenure of Roger A. Powell as a member of the faculty of the Department of Zoology, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University. Included are personal and professional corespondence, publications, course material, photographs, and color films with sound, ranging from 1950 to 2007.

Dr. Roger A. Powell's major research interests and contributions have been in animals' home ranges and spacing: how animals space themselves on a landscape, depending on the home ranges of other individuals and on the distributions of pertinent resources.

Dr. Powell received his B.A. degree from Carleton College in Minnesota and his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. He has taught courses in Wildlife Management, Mammalogy, Evolution, and Ecology of Mammals and Community Ecology. Dr. Powell has authored many books and co-authored numerous publications on the subjects of Behavioral Ecology of Mammals and Wildlife Management.

Biographical/historical note

Dr. Roger A. Powell, Professor Emeritus, Department of Biology at North Carolina State University has concentrated his major research interests and contributions in animals' home ranges habitat and social organization.

Dr. Powell received his B.A. degree from Carleton College in Minnesota and his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. He has taught courses in Wildlife Management, Mammalogy, Evolution, Ecology of Mammals and Community Ecology. Dr. Powell has authored many books and co-authored numerous publications on the subjects of Behavioral Ecology of Mammals and Wildlife Management.
