Robert Klancko is an independent scholar with a BSE from the University of Connecticut, and he is married to Yvonne Shia Klancko who is Lebanese-Syrian. Robert Klankco's collection of materials related to the Eastern Christian Churches and their communities in North America started when he found boxes of almanacs, calendars, and yearbooks in his grandfather's attic. He learned how to read Cyrillic in order to understand the materials, and then decided to expand upon the collection by making it into a research library. Over sixty years, Klancko compiled materials that date from the 1600s to the present.
His collection includes materials related to the Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Church of the East and the Assyrians, and Eastern Rite Catholics. The materials specifically related to the Syrian-Lebanese diaspora make up the Robert Klancko collection.
The Robert Klancko Collection is comprised of publications related to the Syrian-Lebanese diaspora in North America published from 1970 to 2007. Many of the publications are affiliated with community or Antiochian Orthodox Church groups. Included are church newsletters and program books, community newsletters, books related to the history of churches in the Levant, and some newspaper clippings. Publications with the most issues are the New Lebanese American Journal, The News Circle, The Word, and The Link.
This collection is arranged chronologically within publication.
