Dr. Marie Karner received her PhD from the Institute of Geography at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, where she has worked since 2013. Karner specializes in diaspora and migration studies with a regional focus of the United States, Australia, Cuba, Brazil, and Lebanon. Her dissertation titled, Neo-diasporische Gemeinschaften [Neo-diasporic Communities] discusses diaspora concepts, touristification, and commodification of urban spaces among other theoretical aspects.
The Marie Karner Collection of Books and Magazines includes print material taken from Dr. Karner's personal collection. Her dissertation is included as well as titles about Arab immigration and diaspora in Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, and Australia. The magazine issues range in date from 1973-2002 and include the following titles: Cãmara Árabe Noticias, Etapas, As-Salam, Chams Business, Al-Fida, Club Homs, Carta do Líbano, and Al Urubat. Also included are two research studies conducted by The Australian Lebanese Welfare Group and a few studies by Centro Salteño de Investigaciones de la Cultura Arabe (CeSICA).
This collection is arranged alphabetically by title.
