Overview
NOAA's Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) "systematically compiles information in standard formats
for coastal shoreline sensitivity, biological resources, and human-use resources. ESI maps are useful for identifying sensitive resources before a spill occurs so that protection priorities can be established and cleanup strategies designed in advance." The ESI maps are available for North Carolina in both GIS format (ArcView shapefiles, .dbf, and .e00) or PDF maps. The GIS data is available on the Libraries data server. PDF maps are available on CD-ROM or on the Web via NOS MapFinder.

Mapped drive access: all shapefiles are in \\rpp\geodata\fedgov\noaa\esi\avproj\shape and all .e00 files (except symbols) are in \\rpp\geodata\fedgov\noaa\esi\source.

ArcView Project
An ArcView project file (.apr) is downloadable or available on CD-ROM. In order to use the .apr file read the PDF instructions and download the setpath.exe. The project files relate the many .dbf files to the shapefiles. Read the online documentation to learn more about the attribute tables and relations.

PDF maps may be viewed online via the NOS MapFinder or on CD-ROM.
Online Maps
Static PDF maps may be viewed online via the NOS MapFinder.
CD-ROM Access
