A Changing Landscape

These bird's-eye views show what a tangible impact the GI Bill had on this campus. Temporary classrooms were set up on "Quonset Court" (the Court of North Carolina) and "Barracks Court" (today's Gardner Arboretum). Trailwood occupied the current site of Williams Hall, Gardner Hall, Bostian Hall, and the Brickyard. Vetville covered the area between present-day Doak Field and the Bragaw, Lee, and Sullivan residence halls. Faculty and graduate students occupied prefabricated housing units located where D. H. Hill Library, Scott Hall, and Kilgore Hall now stand.
