Introduction to Bioinformatics and NCBI Molecular Searching
Bioinformatics and biomolecular databases can be powerful tools to support life science research. While the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) provides free access to millions of biomolecular records, learning how to leverage these tools can be daunting. This 90 minute workshop will provide an overview on how to use NCBI databases, and introduce strategies for using Entrez to conduct text searches. After this session, students will be able to: Explain what NCBI is and the types of biomedical and biomolecular information stored with NCBI databases.Use Entrez to find biomolecular information within Gene, Nucleotide, and Protein.Identify resources for continuing education on this topic.
