3:30 PM to 5:00 PM
- ITTC Lab 2 at the D. H. Hill Jr. Library
The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) makes freely available incredible quantities of biomolecular information through a series of public databases. Researchers' ability to access this information accelerates discovery and makes possible computational analysis that would not be possible at smaller scales. Accompanying these databases the NCBI also makes available powerful analytical tools such as the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool, BLAST. This workshop will focus on BLAST as a means of discovery and computational analysis in the biomolecular sciences.
After this session students will be able to:
Explain the basic operation of a BLAST search, and the type of information retrievedConduct similarity searches using BLASTIdentify resources for continuing education on this topic
