Waller named Department Head, Research Engagement

Mira Waller has been named Department Head, Research Engagement, effective 1 July 2018.

Waller previously served as Interim Head and will continue to lead the Research Engagement department in working with faculty and students across the scholarship lifecycle. The Research Engagement department offers dynamic services, spaces, and technologies to enable all forms of discovery and learning, along with a full suite of resources for research and teaching productivity. Research Engagement librarians collaborate with faculty and students on emerging technologies for visualization, data curation and management, and bibliometric and computational analysis in an evolving and increasingly interdisciplinary scholarly communication environment.

Waller came to the NCSU Libraries as Associate Head, Collections & Research Strategy, a role in which she shared management responsibility for the department and for the Libraries’ collections budget. She has been an active participant in the movement to re-envision the role of the subject liaison, both at NC State and nationally, contributing to the development of tools and training to enhance support for research. Before joining the NCSU Libraries, Waller was Director of Publishing Services for Project Euclid, an online community and platform for mathematics and statistics scholarship, managed jointly by Cornell University Library and Duke University Press. Previously she served as Assistant Director of Archives, at Duke University Medical Center Library & Archives.

Among her recent professional activities, Waller co-presented Data Science Collection in Print at the Electronic Resources and Libraries Conference, 2018, and Modeling the Open Textbook Toolkit: Sharing Expertise that Promotes Creation of OERS at Open Education Conference, 2017. Waller holds the Master of Library Science from North Carolina Central University and the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Trinity University.
