Special Collections and NC State University Libraries are saddened by the passing of Marvin Malecha, who served as dean of the College of Design from 1994-2015.
In 2015 Special Collections conducted a video oral history of Marvin Malecha documenting his career. In the interview, Malecha shares memories of his life and career, as well as his appreciation for the history of the College of Design at NC State and his numerous contributions to its evolution during his time as its Dean. He also spoke passionately in this clip about the importance of libraries and about his decision to donate his papers to Special Collections.
The Marvin Malecha Papers contain drawings, concept sketches, models, correspondence, speeches, articles and papers, publications, personal notes, conference notes, presentation materials, photographs, and other materials related to Malecha's career in architecture, design teaching, and research from 1966 to 2015.
Malecha’s administrative and professional notebooks are also digitized and available for research upon request. His notebooks have been a popular primary source in Special Collections teaching collaborations with faculty in Design and other disciplines, revealing to students the daily observations and reflections of an important leader in NC State history.
