Making access to Libraries materials even more convenient, the African American Cultural Center Library is now a Libraries Hold/Pick-Up location.
“I couldn't be more excited that this pickup location is finally a reality,” says Adebola Fabiku, Department Head, Access Services. “Students have been asking for a location closer to their dorms, and being able to meet that need is incredible. Expanding access for our community is always exciting, and I’m personally delighted that this will encourage even more students to visit and utilize a space that means so much to us at the Libraries.”
Located in the Witherspoon Student Center on the second floor through the AACC Art Gallery, the AACC Library offers a collection of over 6000 books centering African-American and Afro diasporic experiences, culture, society, and history. Now, you can request books from any Libraries branch to be delivered to and picked up at the AACC Library circulation desk.
“It’s beautiful to see the wishes of former AACC Librarians come to fruition,” says Wynter Douglas, current AACC Library Coordinator and Librarian. “All the way back to the AACC Library’s first Librarian Sandra Dunn (1995-2012), to a beloved Librarian Angela Jenkins (2015-2019), to Hanna Amme who created the interfaith meditation room space (2021-2022), and more recently the award-winning Librarian Brionna Johnson (2023-2024), all the AACC Librarians have been passionate about NC State students, faculty, staff and the wider community being able to access knowledge and find holistic support from our Libraries collection, resources services and community events.”
"In addition to supporting students, faculty will now have another option for a convenient pick-up location on campus,” says Emily Cox, Collections & Research Librarian for Humanities & Media and Libraries liaison to the AACC Library. “I am thrilled that more faculty will now have the chance to discover the AACC Library and learn more about their collections and services that might benefit their own research or support their students’ needs."
The service also gives NC State yet another reason to explore the many amenities and resources that the AACC Library has to offer.
“I am genuinely excited to have our library as a pickup location as it creates more accessibility for our students, staff, and faculty,” says Dr. angela gay-audre, AACC Director. “It also showcases the resourcefulness of the AACC Library and the value it adds to the NC State community. Making the AACC Library a campus pickup location has been a long time in the making, and I am grateful for everyone who has brought this work to fruition.”
