Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders

As a relatively new father who is only just now starting to have time to read again (my son is 1.5 years old as I type), this novel was a hard-hitting undertaking for me.  Lincoln in the Bardo is set in a cemetery just after Abraham Lincoln loses a son, and most of the scenes take place in the haze of a purgatorial netherworld as Lincoln's son comes to grips with what is happening to him, and as Lincoln grieves at graveside.  I am a fan of experimental fiction, and this novel fits comfortably between Marlon James and Virginia Woolf on my bookshelf.
