Maps and Atlases

Introduction

The NCSU Libraries' map collection contains print maps and charts which provide topographic, geologic and thematic coverage of North Carolina, the United States and foreign countries.

Atlases and many other publications also contain maps, so if you do not find what you need, please ask for help!

Location and Access

Most large format print maps are now located at the Libraries' Satellite Shelving (LSS) Facility, while there is a smaller collection of North Carolina 7.5 minute and US 1:250,000 scale topographic maps at the Natural Resources Library.

Maps may be delivered from the LSS to a library location of your choice. By appointment, users affiliated with NCSU may also visit the LSS on Sullivan Drive and view maps in the reading room. Staffing at the LSS is very limited, so arrangements to obtain or view any map need to be made well in advance. Contact Special Collections or use the contact points listed below to discuss making an appointment or requesting a map delivery.

Withdrawn Collections

NCSU Libraries' has withdrawn the following collections due to them being accessible online, requiring high maintenance and storage costs, and lack of use.

  • 1:100,000 scale USGS Topographic Maps
  • 1:24,000 USGS topo maps for states surrounding NC
  • Navigational, Nautical, and Aeronautical Charts
  • FEMA Flood Maps
