The North Carolina State University Division of Student Affairs Publications contain various internal and external publications produced by the Division of Student Affairs and its committees; the division's member groups, programs, and organizations; and by North Carolina State University students. This includes newsletters, magazines, bulletins, handbooks, course catalogs, and other publications related to dining, housing, admissions, registration, financial aid, religious affairs, multicultural affairs, the arts at North Carolina State University, the Reserve Officer Training Corps, student health services, and international student affairs. A significant portion of the material consists of student media publications such as the Agromeck (yearbook), Windhover, and Red and White. The materials are dated 1889 to 2021. Working under their longstanding motto of "Students First," the North Carolina State University Division of Student Affairs works to provide "programs and services for students and the larger community to enhance quality of life, facilitate intellectual, ethical and personal growth, and create a culture which engenders respect for human diversity." The North Carolina State University, Division of Student Affairs, Student Media Authority Records contain budget and financial statements, contracts, correspondence, minutes, staff applications, layout and design information, and publications. There is also a large amount of photographic materials, including CDs, DVDs, photographic prints, negatives, contact sheets, and slides, most of which are from student photographers. The collection includes records of the Student Media Board, 1928-2008, the Agromeck office from 1909 to 2011, the Technician office from 1939 to 2011, the WKNC Radio Station from 1922 to 2006, the Windhover from 1928 to 2013, the Nubian Message from 2007 to 2009, and a small number of records, 1926-2022, from other publications. The Student Media Authority at North Carolina State University oversees creation of campus student publications at North Carolina State University, which include a yearbook, a daily newspaper, literary magazine, and African American student newspaper. It also oversees the student radio station, WKNC, and student television station, Wolf TV. The Publications Board was formed at North Carolina State College in or before 1933 to oversee creation of student publications. By 1937, it included representatives from student publications such as the Agromeck, Technician, Wataugan, Southern Engineer, and Agriculturist. By the late 1940s, it also included representatives from the student radio station WVWP. In the following decades, the organization continued to oversee the finances and leadership of student publications at North Carolina State University. It underwent various name changes, becoming known as the Student Media Board by the mid-2000s. The records of the North Carolina State University, Libraries, Harrye B. Lyons Design Library, 1945-1998, include clippings, publications, memorandum, and various files retained by the library documenting activities of the Harrye B. Lyons Design Library and the School of Design, and design research. Clippings from various newspapers and professional publications relate to lives and works of deans, faculty, and alumni of the School of Design. The majority of newspapers are local, including the News and Observer and the Raleigh Times, but national papers, such as the New York Times, are also included. Other clippings relate broadly to the Harrye B. Lyons Library, School of Design, and North Carolina State University including associated students and staff. Acquisition information, annual reports, project reports, policies, meetings notes, and reference files of the Harrye B. Lyons Library are included. Brochures, fliers, and memoranda relating to the students, staff, faculty, and events of the School of Design are also included. The Harrye B. Lyons Design Library supports the North Carolina State University, College of Design, orginally School of Design, and has collection emphases in architecture, landscape architecture, graphic design, industrial design, and art and design. The Design Library is located in Brooks Hall, now part of the College of Design. Brooks Hall was originally built to be the library on campus, D. H. Hill Jr. Library. The Design Library inhabits the space that was the original reading room of D. H. Hill Jr. Library. It was named for Mrs. Harrye B. Lyons, who headed the Design Library from 1947 to 1968. Less

The State Sentinel Newspaper Collection contains bound volumes of the newspaper which ran from August of 1973 to August of 1974. This collection is comprised of volume 1 numbers 1- 55; Summer Edition numbers 1-3; and volume 2 number 1, the final issue. The newspaper reported NC State news including athletics (particularly football and basketball), student government, campus and local events, and school policies. The State Sentinel offered some different content from the Technician in its more extensive coverage of local politics. There are many articles and editorials on this topic. Ralph James Irace, Jr. was the editor of the State Sentinel. In the first issue, he describes the paper as "of, by, and for the students of N.C. State University." It was funded entirely by advertising, not student fees, to present other viewpoints and opinions to those being represented in the Technician student paper. It was published Tuesdays and Thursdays and owned by the State Sentinel Corporation, chartered as a non-profit student organization. The State Sentinel halted publication in August of 1974 due to financial duress.
