In 1905, the Board of Trustees of the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (later North Carolina State University) first took up the suggestion of creating a dean for agriculture, but only under President Wallace Riddick (in 1917) was the position of dean created. In 1923, following the reorganization of North Carolina State College (later, University), the School (later, College) of Agriculture was created. In 1964, the School of Agriculture became the School of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The records of the North Carolina State University, Construction Services Records contain correspondence, plans, drawings, and other documentation related to the construction, renovation, and repair of buildings and other structures on the North Carolina State University campus. In 1960 North Carolina State University established what was formerly known as the Campus Planning Office, which updated the 1958 plan. The Campus Planning Office was renamed the Design and Construction Services Department, located under the authority of the Facilities Division in the Office of Finance and Administration.
