The Greenway Team, Inc. Records contain papers, audiovisual material, digital media, and a website, which document the greenway, trails, and open space projects created by two organizations--The Greenway Team, Inc., (2005-present), previously called Urban Edges Inc. (1978-2006), and South Suburban Park Foundation (1981-2004). Project files contain master plans, in-progress and development plans, reports, designs, maps, correspondence, notes, company records, newsletters, magazines, informational pamphlets, book publishing information, books co-authored and contributed by Robert M. Searns, Charles A. Flink, and Charles Little, project presentation boards, and presentations with slides. These documents pertain mainly to projects in Colorado, followed by cities in Arizona, California, Illinois, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, South Dakota, Texas, and Utah. The Greenway Team, Inc., led by Robert Searns and Bill Neumann, has designed numerous greenway and trail master plans, regional greenway and open space plans, interpretive planning and exhibits, and greenway and open space maintenance services for multiple cities in Colorado and eleven states throughout the American West, Southwest, and Midwest. Operating out of Littleton, Colorado, the firm is an active company and is extending its reach into China. The Greenway Team operated as Urban Edges, Inc., from the mid-1970s until 2005/2006. The Hosiery Association (originally the National Association of Hosiery & Underwear Manufacturers) was based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Hosiery Association was founded in 1905 and was a global trade organization advocating for hosiery manufacturers. The collection includes industry directories (2002, 2004); annual hosiery statistics (1999); hosiery advertisements (1938); and the founding charter (1910) of the National Association of Hosiery & Underwear Manufacturers, which was later renamed The Hosiery Association. The Peter C. Sugar Drawings of the Potential Reconstruction of a Modified Version of the Raleigh House contains some drawings and born-digital content created by architect Peter C. Sugar. These architectural drawings and files demonstrate Sugar's work on a proposal for a modified version of the Raleigh House, originally designed by architect Eduardo Catalano. Eduardo Catalano's iconic modernist Raleigh house (built in 1954 and demolished in 2001) was going to be reconstructed as a pavilion on NC State University's campus. In 2004, Catalano proposed to the university the construction of the pavilion as part of his architectural legacy. The pavilion was originally planned for construction on the eastern end of the Court of North Carolina, but there was strong opposition against the location by many members of the campus community, so Catalano withdrew his offer in May 2005. Peter Sugar's later drawings and proposal for a modified version of the Raleigh House on Centennial Campus in 2009 also did not come to fruition. Less

This collection includes volume 1, issue 2; volume 1, issue 3; and volume 3, issue 1 of The State Scene. The issues contain articles of particular interest to the parents of NC State students including items on public safety, events, programs, and computing on campus. Materials range in date from spring of 1989 to fall of 1990. The State Scene was published by the North Carolina State University Parents' Association (later Parents and Families Services) to notify parents of events and initiatives on campus. The Theodore B. Mitchell Papers consists of correspondence, research notes, glass plate lantern slides, and newspaper clippings pertaining to Theodore B. Mitchell's career and his research on "systematic entomology," and in particular his study of bees (which culminated in the publication of the two-volume Bees of the Eastern United States). The Professional Correspondence series contains letters to colleagues in the field of entomology and includes, among others, letters to and from the British Museum of Natural History, the California Academy of Sciences, the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the College of Tropical Agriculture. The Personal Correspondence series contains letters to friends and family members, as well as letters that document Mitchell's involvement with various civic organizations. Theodore B. Mitchell (1890-1983) was a North Carolina State College professor of entomology for over thirty-five years. During his career, he researched "systematic entomology" and had a special focus on bees. The Thomas Buie Morris Papers, 1914-1989, contains the book, Stories of a Country Boy, Morris's autobiography. Also included are newspaper clippings, publications by North Carolina State University and the extension service pertaining to poultry, correspondence relating to Poultry Science Extension, speeches, photographs, poultry calendars made by poultry extension specialists, publications from other states and the United States Department of Agriculture, newsletters, seminars, proceedings, and other items related to poultry and eggs. Thomas Buie Morris (1915-2001), called Tom, was a Poultry Extension Specialist at North Carolina State University (formerly North Carolina College of Agriculture and Engineering) from 1948 to 1975. He was the author of Poultry Can Crow at NC State University (1980). Morris graduated from the University of Georgia in 1940 and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He served as Secretary and Treasurer of the North Carolina State Hatchery Association for seven years. Less

The Thomas J. Hoban Papers, 1950-2006, contains major surveys gauging the acceptance of biotechnology; industry adaptation of innovation; farmer adoption of new practices; and public attitudes about environmental quality. Content includes professional correspondence, scientific and sociological research papers, corporate promotional materials, news articles, and opinion polling data related to the biotechnology industry, agri-business, ecological studies, and mass communications. Also included are a wide range of publications Hoban used as reference materials for his research and surveys. Thomas J. Hoban IV, professor and extension specialist, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, North Carolina State University, received a Ph.D. in Sociology from Iowa State University in 1986. He has two masters degrees from the University of Wisconsin, one in journalism and one in water resource management. He has a B.S. in biology from the University of Illinois. His research and educational programs have covered the full spectrum of the food industry "from farm to table." In addition to his instructional and research work at North Carolina State University, Hoban has served as a consultant to business, government, and trade associations. This collection contains material documenting the personal and professional life of Thomas Nelson, an internationally renowned textile expert and educator. Included are correspondence, photographs, textile samples, clippings from print media, class and lab notes, and Nelson's various published works. Of special interest in this collection is correspondence with then-Democratic presidential nominee Franklin Delano Roosevelt, correspondence with a North Carolina State alumnus serving in World War II, and a signed 4th edition of Nelson's book, Practical Loom Fixing. Thomas Nelson (1872-1953) worked as educator, administrator, and textile technologist. He served the Textiles Department at North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) from 1901 to 1949, originally as an instructor, then Head of the Textiles Department, and later as the first Dean of the School of Textiles. The Thomas S. Elleman Papers contains correspondence, lecture notes, research articles, journals, publications, annual reports, slides, and transparencies related to nuclear engineering and radiation. Materials are dated 1958 to 2005. Thomas S. Elleman (1931-2010) attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio, graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He then accepted an Ames Laboratory Research Fellowship through Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa where he received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry in 1957. In his first professional position, at Battelle Memorial Institute, a contract research laboratory in Columbus, Ohio, he worked on nuclear fuel development, radioisotopes applications, and radiation effects. He departed Battelle in 1964 as Associate Head of the Chemical Physics Department to become Associate Professor of Nuclear Engineering at North Carolina State University in Raleigh. Less

This collection contains drawings and specifications for the Jonathan W. Daniels home on 1540 Caswell Street in Hayes Barton in Raleigh, North Carolina. This Georgian brick two-story home was designed by Thomas W. Cooper in 1937. Thomas Wright Cooper (1897-1957) was a Raleigh architect who designed in a range of styles from the 1920s onward, including Colonial Revival, Neoclassical, and Modernist. He worked with G. Murray Nelson beginning in 1921 and designed residences in the Colonial Revival style for upper class clients in Raleigh. Less

The Thomas W. Cooper Papers contains documentation on the Walter Noneman residence in the Bloomsbury area of Raleigh, North Carolina. Included are blueprint drawings and specficiations for the house. There is also a folder of bills and correspondence from the building contractor. Thomas Wright Cooper (1897-1957) was a Raleigh architect who practiced with several different associates. He designed in a wide range of architectural styles from the 1920s onward, including works in Colonial Revival, Neoclassical, and Modern modes. Less

The Tim Buchman Photographs on North Carolina Architecture Collection consists of photographic negatives and one notebook containing descriptions of the contents of the photographs. These photographs were taken by Tim Buchman for the 1990 publication, North Carolina Architecture by Catherine W. Bishir, a book covering the architectural heritage of North Carolina from the colonial period to World War II. This book was published for The Historic Preservation Foundation of North Carolina's fiftieth anniversary commemoration by The University of North Carolina Press. Less

The Tobacco Science Research Conference Papers (1947-2008) contain conference programs, proceedings, attendee lists, correspondence, and notes about conferences for tobacco industry researchers and workers. It also includes materials related to nominations for the Philip Morris Award, given out at the Tobacco Science Research Conference. For most conferences, a program and proceedings are available. For some, more extensive materials, including correspondence, abstract drafts, and MS notes are also included. The collection includes a few photographs, some photographic slides, and digital media in the form of numerous 3.5" floppy disks, and a few 5.25" disks and CD-ROMs. The digital media likely contains drafts of abstracts and/or papers that were later published in the conference proceedings. The Tobacco Chemists' Research Conferences began in 1947 and has met annually since then. In 1998 it became the Tobacco Science Research Conference. A separate conference, the Tobacco Workers' Conference, began in the 1940s (perhaps 1941, based on the conference numbers), and meets biannually. Less

The Tom Regan Papers contain correspondence, research files, drafts, reprints, audiovisual materials, and websites that document the professional career of one of the most widely-known authorities on animal rights. The collection pertains chiefly to the two major intellectual pursuits of Tom Regan's career, animal rights and the moral philosophy of G. E. Moore. Also included are files related to his thirty years of service to North Carolina State University,some personal material, material related to other subjects. A prolific writer on animal liberation and animal rights philosophy, Tom Regan (1938-2017) was professor and department head in the Philosophy Department at North Carolina State University. The publication of Regan's The Case for Animal Rights marked a major advance in the philosophical underpinnings of the animal rights movement. This book brought the discussion of animal rights to new levels of serious attention within scholarly circles. Less
