NC State's student chapter of the ASCE was established in or before 1948, giving civil engineering students the opportunity to become exposed to the professional world of civil engineering, while also helping to coordinate many of the activities going on within the Department of Civil Engineering (later, Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering) at NC State. The Collegiate 4-H Club at NC State was founded in 1940 as a supper club to foster fellowship among 4-H members at State College, to promote citizenship and leadership, and to acquaint members with Extension work. It was accepted into the Tri-state Federation of Collegiate 4-H Clubs in 1941 and remained active on campus until 1943. It was dissolved in 1944 and reestablished in 1950. Members engaged in a variety of activities including fundraising and community service projects. The club also participated in state, regional, and national Collegiate 4-H conferences. The Collegiate 4-H Club remained active at NC State as of 2008.

MoreThis collection contains the administrative records of the NC State University colony (chapter) of the Delta Upsilon fraternity, including correspondence, financial records, meeting minutes, notebooks kept by fraternity officers, information on the incorporation of the colony at NC State University, and information on the fraternity house and fraternity activities. This collection also contains some materials produced by the International Headquarters of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Materials range in date from 1974 to 1993. [Alpha] Delta Upsilon, an international men's fraternity, was founded in 1834. The fraternity is committed to "building better men" through their four founding principles: friendship, character, culture, and justice. The North Carolina State University colony (chapter) of the fraternity was established in 1976, with the first class taking pledges in 1977. Through the 1980s, the fraternity stayed active on campus and participated in many activities, but was forced to disband in 1993, due to low membership. NC State University's Delta Upsilon colony was later reinstated, practicing a mission to: "strengthen Greek life at North Carolina State University by providing a vehicle for positive leadership, change, and growth," and remains active as of 2008.

The purpose of the Engineers' Council was to provide a unified student voice within the School of Engineering, while also promoting the study and practice of the various disciplines in engineering. While the records of the Engineers' Council do not indicate gaps in the Councils' activity, the Council may have disbanded at some point and reformed in 1987, according to their website in 2008.

MoreThe records of North Carolina State University chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta include nominations, awards, notices and memoranda, correspondence, membership lists and directories, and financial information, as well as brochures, event programs, organization newsletters, and files on the organization compiled by Dr. J. L. Etchells of the Food Science Department. Gamma Sigma Delta began in 1905 as a professional agricultural fraternity called Delta Theta Sigma. The name was officially changed in 1913, and in 1915, the organization merged with the Honor Society of Agriculture. Members of the international organization petitioned for recognition of a campus chapter at North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) in 1954, which was approved in 1955. After a slow start, the organization grew rapidly and undertook a variety of activities, including honoring achievements of students and faculty, meeting with freshmen during orientation, sponsoring a tutoring program, and participating in the Biennial Conclave. NC State's chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta remains active as of 2008.

MoreThe records of the Golden Chain Honor Society include their constitution, meeting minutes, member and recepient rosters, correspondence, financial information, induction banquet programs, yearbooks, and other general information about the society. The Golden Chain Honor Society was begun after a student wrote an article in the Technician, proposing the idea of forming an honor society exclusive to NC State which would recognize several seniors who had excelled academically as students during their time at the university, but who had also demonstrated leadership and service to the university and in the community. The Golden Chain Honor Society was formed in 1926, and 12 senior students were selected to be the first members of the "golden chain" of exceptional NC State students. Thereafter, up to 12 rising seniors were selected in the spring of their junior year to form the next "links" in the "golden chain," and were recognized at a "tapping" ceremony at the end of their junior year. The Golden Chain Honor Society remained active as of 2008, at that time having just shy of 900 members ("links") in the Chain.

NC State's chapter records contain their constitution and bylaws, correspondence, meeting minutes, membership lists, financial information, information on officers, awards, activities, chapter history, and other general records of the chapter. The records from the National Office of Phi Kappa Phi are comprised mostly of publications, and also include official handbooks, constitution and bylaws, brochures, and other literature produced by the national office for distribution to all chapters; as well as some materials on conference gatherings, the history of Phi Kappa Phi, and NC State emeritus professor Wendell H. McKenzie's tenure as national president. The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 at the University of Maine to act as an honorary society recognizing academic excellence across all disciplines. A chapter of Phi Kappa Phi was established at North Carolina State College (University) in 1923, largely under the direction of W. A. Withers, head of the Department of Chemistry. NC State's chapter was the 33rd to be established.

The Pershing Rifles were established by General John Joseph Pershing at the University of Nebraska in 1891 to act as an honorary organization for members of the ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps) program. The L-4 Company of the Pershing Rifles was established at NC State on February 7, 1953, and participates in ceremonies such as the Color Guard and the Pennant Guard for university and athletic events. The L-4 Company is believed to remain active as of 2008.

The North Carolina State University Rugby Football Club was organized in 1965. The records for the first few years of the club's existence were reportedly intentionally destroyed. The club competed with a number of teams up and down the Atlantic seaboard as a member of the Eastern Rugby Union and later joined the United States of America Rugby Football Union. The team has toured outside the region, including vists to Great Britian and has hosted teams from the United States and abroad.
