These records contain files pertaining to the activities and administration of the North Carolina State University Burlington Textiles Library including correspondence and reference files kept by the library, clippings, brochures, and other information about topics related to the College of Textiles. They also include slide sets, a portrait of Wallace W. Riddick, Jr., the Dedication Plaque for the Burlington Textiles Library, the Quick Response Collection, Textile World Charts, and panels from past exhibits. Materials range in date from 1911 to 2010. From 1988 to 2013, the Burlington Textiles Library was located in room 4411 of the College of Textiles complex on the Centennial Campus at North Carolina State University. The Library provided services to the faculty and staff, students, and NC State Centennial Campus community and university affiliates. The Library supported the curriculum and research programs in textile chemistry, textile materials and management, and fiber and polymer science. The Collection Management Department built and managed the NC State University Libraries' collections in support of campus research and instructional needs. Among the department's responsibilities were selecting books, journals, electronic resources, and media; developing collection policies; and reporting collections data for reviews and accreditation. The records also include those of the Long Range Planning Committee, the Centennial Celebration Committee, and the Commission on the State of the Library. The majority of these records belonged to Jinnie Davis who retired in 2001 after twenty-one years of working for the Libraries. The North Carolina State University Libraries Administration carries out the library's mission by planning, organizing, directing, and promoting activities and operations in public service; by managing, organizing, and preserving collections; by recruiting, retaining, and developing personnel; by fundraising and reseraching; and through technology support, budget and finance, facilities, and public relations. The Director of Planning and Research was previously titled Assistant Director for Planning and Research. The library space was expanded in 1971 by building an 11-story book tower and connecting the original space with the former student union (now the Erdahl-Cloyd or west wing). Further expansion and renovation occurred in the 1980s, culminating in 1990 with the opening of the second (or "south") bookstack tower. In 2013 the award-winning James B. Hunt Library opened on the university’s Centennial Campus. In 2016, NC State University Libraries won the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, bestowed by the Institute for Museum and Library Service. The medal was presented by First Lady Michelle Obama to Director Susan Nutter during a ceremony. Susan Nutter retired from the Libraries in 2017, after an esteemed 30 year tenure. Less

The North Carolina State University Libraries, Metadata and Cataloging Department Records include statistics, policies and procedures, meeting minutes, and other files related to departmental activities, 1970-2002. The Metadata and Cataloging Department (formerly Cataloging and Catalog Department) has existed since at least 1925. The department provides tools that assist library patrons in locating information resources, either locally or remotely through the Internet. These information resources are organized and maintained in all formats, providing prompt access to the user. This collection contains records relating to the activities and administration of the North Carolina State University Natural Resources Library. These records include memoranda and correspondence, including intradepartmental memos, questionnaires, requests to borrow materials, thank-you notes, and handwritten notes between August 1979 and April 1982. The majority of the correspondence was sent by Dr. Pamela Puryear, who at the time was head of the Forest Resources Library (now known as the Natural Resources Library).This collection also contains literature guides and lists of new acquisitions for Forest Resources Library: Jan. 1972, August 1973, November 1974, December 1974, and December 1979. The Natural Resources Library supports the College of Natural Resources and the Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences at North Carolina State University. The library collection includes materials on forestry, natural resources, environmental sciences, sport management, parks and recreation, tourism, paper science and engineering, wood products, biomaterials and bioenergy, and marine, earth, and atmospheric sciences. This collection contains the records from the North Carolina State University Libraries' preservation activities. The major issues addressed were mold, stolen pages/materials, water damage, disaster planning, the preservation of the school newspaper, The Technician, and acid-free paper printing. The collection includes memos, letters, meeting minutes and agendas, handwritten notes, supplemental information, pamphlets and other miscellaneous materials including a list from 1968 of stolen and missing materials. In 1982 a Preservation Committee was established within the North Carolina State University's libraries. The Committee had a last meeting on 25 October 1988, wrote a report addressing concerns, and subsequently disbanded. A new structure, the Preservation Department, emerged shortly thereafter with subcommittees such as Preservation Education and Disaster Planning. The Preservation Department's stated mission is to maintain and preserve collections and the information they contain in viable and accessible formats. Less

The records of the North Carolina State University Libraries, Research and Information Services Department include correspondence, files, slides, minutes, and audio recordings relating to government documents and library activities; and materials relating to the move of the Documents Department in 1997. The Documents Division was merged with the Reference Department to form the Research and Information Services Department. The Research and Information Services Department provided guidance and expertise for users in their research endeavors by connecting them with library resources. The North Carolina State University Libraries SOLINET records contain correspondence, reports, newsletters, grants, Board of Directors' minutes, membership meeting minutes relating to founding of SOLINET and the participation of North Carolina State University. The Southeastern Library Network (SOLINET) was a not-for-profit membership cooperative of libraries and other information organizations in the southeastern U.S. Established in 1973 by the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL), SOLINET collaborated with member libraries and local, regional, and national partners to provide leadership for cooperative action to improve access to information and enable members to effectively address the region’s needs for education and economic development. SOLINET emphasized the value of a cooperative infrastructure for the wise stewardship of information and human and financial resources. Each member received the benefits of regional library cooperation through sharing of resources and expertise, forums for collaboration, and access to cost-effective programs and services. In 2009, SOLINET and PALINET (serving libraries in the mid-Atlantic) merged to form Lyrasis. Less

The North Carolina State University Special Collections Research Center Records contain correspondence, brochures, exhibit files, CD-ROMs containing digital projects, and other materials relating to the activities and administration of the department. Materials range in date from 1957 to 2010. North Carolina State University Libraries established the Department of Special Collections in 1993; at the same time, the University Archives - established in the 1960s but with origins dating back to 1939 - was transferred from the Provost's Office to the administrative jurisdiction of the Libraries and - together with Rare Books and Manuscripts - formed the new program. The SCRC supports the research and teaching needs of the university community and other scholars by collecting, housing, and providing access to special collections that are unique and often irreplaceable. The North Carolina State University Libraries, William Rand Kenan, Jr. Veterinary Medicine Library Records consist of four framed photographs of William R. Kenan, Jr. and his home, informational brochures, articles, born digital materials, photographs of the library dedication, and documents regarding gifts to the library. The Veterinary Medicine Library opened in 1981 with the first graduating class from the School (now College) of Veterinary Medicine. It supports the research and curriculum at the College of Veterinary Medicine and the study of life sciences, veterinary medicine, and animal and human health at NC State University. In 2006 it was renamed the William Rand Kenan, Jr. Library of Veterinary Medicine. Kenan (1872-1965) was a North Carolina native who contributed to progress in a variety of fields, including education, engineering, agriculture, finance, business and science. Less

Contained here are bylaws, correspondence, intellectual property and patent agreements, board of director minutes, financial records, and other records of NC State University Research Corporation. Included are agreements and documents relating to CAD-PACK, and Rho-Max/RCS-Technologies. One of the records dates to 1954, a few folders date to the 1970s. However, the majority of the documents come from the beginning of the organization in 1984 through the year 1993. Some documents date later than 1993. These records were originally filed with the Office of Finance and Business, Centennial Campus Records. The record from 1954 appears to be a preliminary agreement, before the research corporation began being more active and encompassing Software work. The North Carolina State University Research Corporation was incorporated on 13 July 1984. Among its initial objectives were (1) to enhance the capabilities of faculty, staff, and students to conduct research, (2) to coordinate and support joint efforts of the university, the local community, and industry for increased research development, (3) to acquire and operate research equipment, facilities, and land needed to conduct research, and (4) to manage intellectual property resulting from research. On 12 December 2001 the organization's name was changed to the North Carolina State University Partnership Corporation. Less

Wood Products Extension at North Carolina State University is a part of the Cooperative Extension Service, College of Natural Resources, Department of Wood and Paper Science.
