The records of the North Carolina State University Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences are produced mainly by three of the now-defunct departments that preceded it: Geological Engineering (1927-1954), Mineral Industries (1954-1967), and Geosciences (1967-1980). Records include reports, proposals, papers, curricula, meeting minutes, flyers and publications, official correspondence, and other items; newsletters from the State Climate Office; and meeting minutes from the NC State University Center for Marine and Coastal Studies Administrative and Planning Board. The North Carolina State University Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences, offering degree programs in marine sciences, geology, and meteorology, was formed in 1981 from the merger of the Department of Geosciences and the Department of Marine Science and Engineering.
