MoreThe William Lance Collection of M-series Drug Records contains reports, correspondence with the Federal Drug Administration, agreements, New Animal Drug Applications, and films relating to the development and testing of the M-99 drug and its antidotes, M50-50 and M-285. Records range in date from 1964 to 1971. The M-series were revolutionary drugs in zoological health. The drugs are an analgesic which can cause catatonia at very low doseages; they are used for immobilising game animals. The M-series of drugs is composed of M-99, or etorphine, as well as M-99's antidotes, M50-50 and M-285. The drugs were developed in partnership between American Cyanamid Company of Pearl River, New York and Reckitt & Sons, Ltd. of Hull, England. Reckitt & Sons Ltd. conducted many laboratory tests of the drugs which helped to inform American Cyanamid Company's application to the New Animal Drug department of the FDA. Lederle Laboratories located in Pearl River, New York manufactured the drugs for export. William Lance's company, Wildlife Pharmaceuticals, acquired the records and the rights to the M-series drugs after its formation in 1981.
