His journals comment chiefly on the weather, a variety of farming and business activities, social visits to neighbors and relatives, and his personal and religious thoughts. Daniel William Greenlee resided on the family's Burke County (present-day McDowell County) plantation, called Turkey Cove, in close proximity to his father, brother, sister, and aunt. He raised a variety of crops, such as wheat and corn, as well as hogs and cattle.
