The North Carolina State Beekeepers Association Records, 1917-2025 (bulk 1950-2018), contains minutes, agendas, financial reports, correspondence, newsletters, publications, beekeepings manuals, curriculum materials, calendars, and archived web content. Other materials include photographs, videos, and presentation materials relating to beekeeping and honey production. Significant portions of the collection are from the personal and professional papers of John D. Foust, who was elected President of the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association in 2003. Materials range from 1917 to 2021, with the bulk of materials from 1950 to 2018. Formed in 1917, the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association (NCSBA) has grown into the largest state beekeeping association in the United States, with more than 70 of the state’s counties organized into local chapters within the organization. As of 2017, the NCSBA is a volunteer led organization with more than 4,000 active members, most of whom are hobbyist beekeepers. Members of the NCSBA promote the honey bee to the public at beekeeping schools, county fairs, festivals, and special events, including Bug Fest in Raleigh, Bee Friendly Day in Tarboro, and National Honey Bee Day in Goldsboro.
