The records of the Social Functions Committee of North Carolina State University (earlier North Carolina State College) span from 1925 to 1971. There is an additional folder of undated material in the collection. The collection primarily contains the minutes of the Social Functions Committee, as well as forms and information regarding chaperones, rental of locations and supplies, policies regarding social functions associated with the University, and correspondence related to said functions. Information relating to the Interfraternity Council and various fraternal and social organizations on campus can be found in this collection. A significant focus lies in expectations for student conduct and alcohol use at campus-related events. Though the included information spans from 1925 to 1971, there are few documents pertaining to the years 1925 to 1947. A Social Functions committee apparently existed at North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) in 1924-1925. The North Carolina State University, Division of Academic and Student Affairs, Department of Performing Arts and Technology Records contain office files, audio recordings of various performances made by groups associated with the Music Department, programs from performances, news releases and newspaper clippings, and files pertaining to the Raleigh Chamber Music Guild. This collection contains announcements, annual reports, applications, architectural drawings and specifications, brochures, bulletins, constitutions, contracts, correspondence, handbooks, manuals, membership lists, minutes, programs, scrapbooks, time reports, and work plans. The records document the activities of the office from 1903 to 1989. From 1908 to 1974, the office of Religious Affairs was nearly synonymous with the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), as the records indicate. Hence, the collection also includes the records of the Danforth Chapel from 1955 to 1976, the International Student Center from 1955 to 1965, and the Self-Help Bureau from 1932 to 1941. The Office of Religious Affairs grew out of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) and the leadership of Edward S. King, who served North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) through the YMCA from 1919 to 1955. The campus branch of the YMCA was established in 1889 and was the site of the following activities and events: regular Sunday services; Bible study classes; a published montly paper; a handbook for freshmen and prospective students; speakers and discussion groups; a game room for students; a barbershop; and the Self-Help Bureau, which helped students secure employment while in college. The collection includes records of the Student Media Board, 1928-2008, the Agromeck office from 1909 to 2011, the Technician office from 1939 to 2011, the WKNC Radio Station from 1922 to 2006, the Windhover from 1928 to 2013, the Nubian Message from 2007 to 2009, and a small number of records, 1926-2022, from other publications. The Student Media Authority at North Carolina State University oversees creation of campus student publications at North Carolina State University, which include a yearbook, a daily newspaper, literary magazine, and African American student newspaper. It also oversees the student radio station, WKNC, and student television station, Wolf TV. The Publications Board was formed at North Carolina State College in or before 1933 to oversee creation of student publications. By 1937, it included representatives from student publications such as the Agromeck, Technician, Wataugan, Southern Engineer, and Agriculturist. By the late 1940s, it also included representatives from the student radio station WVWP. In the following decades, the organization continued to oversee the finances and leadership of student publications at North Carolina State University. It underwent various name changes, becoming known as the Student Media Board by the mid-2000s. As of 2010, Student Media is part of the Division of Student Affairs and is based in Witherspoon Student Center. It includes 220 paid and volunteer student positions. Less

The General Faculty Meeting Records are primarily comprised of the minutes from meetings held by the President, later Chancellor, and faculty at North Carolina State University. The minutes cover all aspects of running the university, and include discussions of the curriculum, organization of the academic calendar, finances, requirements for admittance and withdrawal, scheduling for the school year, and issues between students and professors, among many other topics. Also included in the collection are general faculty bylaws and a small amount of correspondence and resolutions. Materials date from 1889 to 1980. Alexander Holladay, J.R. Chamberlain, W.F. Massey, W.A. Withers, D.H. Hill Jr., and J.H. Kinealy comprised the entire administration of the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts when the faculty met for the first time on Oct. 13, 1889. Alexander Quarles Holladay was the first chief executive of the (then) college. In 1889, Holladay applied to the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts for the position of professor of English, but the Board of Trustees appointed him as the first college president instead. President Holladay and the faculty met regularly to discuss all matters of running the college, including any issues with the student body, which was only 50 students at the time. Holladay served the institution until failing health forced his retirement in 1899. He died in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1909. Less

The North Carolina State University Libraries Annual Reports contain annual reports from the main library, its departments, and the university's branch libraries. There are some gaps in the files, and these records are unprocessed. The first library at North Carolina State University was established in 1889 in a room in Holladay Hall. In 1925 a new purpose-built library building was constructed (now Brooks Hall). In 1954 the current D.H. Hill Library building was opened (originally just the east wing of the current structure). The library space was expanded in 1971 by building an 11-story book tower and connecting the original space with the former student union (now the Erdahl-Cloyd or west wing). Further expansion and renovation occurred in the 1980s, culminating in 1990 with the opening of the second (or "south") bookstack tower. In 2013 the award-winning James B. Hunt Library opened on the university’s Centennial Campus. In 2016, NC State University Libraries won the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, bestowed by the Institute for Museum and Library Service. The medal was presented by First Lady Michelle Obama to Director Susan Nutter during a ceremony. Susan Nutter retired from the Libraries in 2017, after an esteemed 30 year tenure. Less
