Contained in this collection are agricultural publications (ca. 1920 - ca. 1960); pamphlets, brochures, and flyers for agricultural equipment and other agricultural information (ca. 1920 - ca. 1960); and correspondence, other papers, and memorabilia of David C. and Edgar W. Worth (1916 - 1990). This collection formerly contained publications, brochures, etc. produced by NC State College/University (1920s – 1980s) but these have been moved to the University Archives. Brothers David Crenshaw and Edgar Wilson Worth graduated from North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later NC State University), the former with a B.S. in Agriculture (1927) and M.S. in Animal Husbandry (1930) and the latter with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. David was the owner/operator of Oakhurt Dairy Farm in Wake County, NC, from 1927-1956. He was a prominent member of various dairy organzations in North Carolina. Less

The Ed Caram Negatives contain photographic negatives taken by Caram during his time as a student at NC State, from approximately 1969 to 1975. Topics photographed include athletics (particularly basketball and football), campus buildings, political rallies, student protests, outdoor events, concerts, daily student life, speakers, and the State Fair, among others. Negatives in Cardbox 13 and Microfilm Boxes 16 and 17 may have been taken by Nick England, another student photographer for the Technician. Ed Caram was a photographer for Student Media, with many photos appearing in the Technician student newspaper and perhaps the Agromeck yearbook as well. The H. Thomas Kearney Papers contain materials related to the Transition program conducted by North Carolina State University during the 1970s. The collection includes promotional materials, program descriptions, correspondence, newspaper clippings, reports, and film rental receipts as well as materials, such as a script and slides, that relate to a student-produced performance based on readings from diaries, letters, and contemporary newspaper accounts dealing with North Carolina's involvement in the Civil War. H. Thomas Kearney was an instructor in the History Department of North Carolina State University from 1970 to 1978.Kearney was involved with Transition, a program conducted by North Carolina State University during the 1970s and beyond. Billed as “an alternative freshman year,” the Transition program brought together about fifty freshmen for a small-scale group learning experience. The Jim Davis Photographs contain photographs, slides, and negatives of the NC State University campus, student life and activities, athletics, and Chancellor John Caldwell, among other topics. Selected images were used in the Agromeck yearbooks of 1972, 1973, and 1974. Most items were photographed by Jim Davis (editor of the 1975 Agromeck), but some were taken by Michael O'Brien and Jim Holcombe, also on the Agromeck staff. Less

The North Carolina State University Student Orientation Committee records are dated from 1953 to 1974. The records include minutes and meeting notes, orientation program schedules, memos from committee members, Student Orientation Committee annual reports, and letters to Chancellor Carey H. Bostian and other administrators. During the spring of 1953 North Carolina State College Chancellor Carey H. Bostian appointed a freshman orientation committee to appraise the orientation program and make recommendations for improvement. The committee members were students, staff and faculty of North Carolina State College. The members were unanimous in their opinion that the program should not be confined to "Freshman Week," but should continue through the first semester. The new program included a welcome by Chancellor Carey H. Bostian, a Coke party sponsored by the Woman's Club, recreation activities sponsored by the physical education department, a social evening at the college student union and the traditional tea hosted by the Chancellor. Over a period of time additional activities and programs were added to the Student Orientation Committe agenda, such as an orientation for the parents of freshman students and for black freshman students. Many of the materials in this collection pre-date the establishment of the Division of Academic and Student Affairs in 2011, but were included in their files. The records of the North Carolina State University Student Organization Resource Center contain forms completed by student organizations to register their organizations with the university, as well as constitutions, bylaws, correspondence, office records, and other administrative information about the organizations. Materials range in date from 1942 to 2009. The North Carolina State University Student Organization Resource Center, now known as the James H. Woodward Student Involvement Center, exists to meet the needs of students who are interested in involvement on campus through organized groups. As a part of the Division of Student Affairs, one of the Student Involvement Center's main responsibilities is to advise students who start or participate in registered student organizations. As of 2017, there are more than 700 registered student organizations at NC State, including Student Government and the Union Activities Board. The records of the North Carolina State University, Division of Student Affairs, Union Activities Board contain meeting minutes, agendas, manuals, rosters, reports, budgets, proposals, photographs, slides, flyers, CDs, calendars, posters, handbills, membership forms, task list, correspondence, bulletins, and archived web content. Materials are dated from 1954 to present. Founded in 1951 as the College Union Board of Chairmen and renamed in the early 1970s, the Union Activities Board develops and carries out social and cultural programs for students. The mission statement specified in the Union Activities Board bylaws, as revised on 18 March 2013, was “For students by students, the Union Activities Board creates innovative activities that stimulate, motivate, educate, and involve the student body.“ Seven committees were chartered in the bylaws as revised on 18 March 2013: Black Students Board, Diviersity Activities Board, Films, Issues and Ideas, Late Night and Concerts, Leisure and Entertainment, and Marketing. The Park Scholarship records contains annual reports, clippings, correspondence, proposals, publications, some historical/biographical material on Roy H. Park, brochures, and a few artifacts. The material dates from 1938 to 2016.There are also some student records in box 3, which are closed to researchers. The Park Scholarships were established at North Carolina State University in 1996 with a grant from the Park Foundation of Ithaca, N.Y., to fund an inaugural class of 25 scholars. The Park Scholarships program was named for Roy H. Park, NC State University class of 1931. The Program was established to provide a superb educational opportunity for exceptionally talented and well-prepared young men and women who merit the intellectual challenge of a distinguished faculty and a superior university. The Office for Equal Opportunity and Equity Records contain correspondence, memoranda, meeting minutes, reports, publications, and other material related to the administrative functions of the Affirmative Action Office (later the Office for Equal Opportunity and Equity). The bulk of the material involves efforts by North Carolina State University to comply with federal statutory and regulatory requirements prohibiting discrimination. Also included are records of the Disability Services Office, which became part of the Office for Equal Opportunity in 1999. Most of the Disability Services material, comprising student records, is restricted, and will be deaccessioned according the disposition instructions for GU 323 (Services to Students with Disabilities) of the University of North Carolina (System) General Records Retention and Disposition Schedule. The Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Office oversaw all university activities related to compliance with federal and state laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, gender, and disability. In July of 2011, the office of Equal Opportunity, Equity, and Compliance became a unit under the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity. As of 2020, Equal Opportunity and Equity provides training, resources and assistance to address and end discrimination and harassment at NC State. Areas of focus include accommodations and accessibility, discrimination and harassment, Equal Employment Opportunity and affirmative action, pregnancy, and Title IX. Less

This collection is comprised of correspondence, surveys, and reports related to discrimination and African American issues. It also includes information on the African American Cultural Center. This office of African American Affairs worked in cooperation with the Affirmative Action Office. In 1990 North Carolina State University created a position of Coordinator of African American Affairs within the Office of the Provost. Dr. Augustus M. Witherspoon became the first to fill the position. Drs. William C. Grant, Rupert W. Nacoste, and Jose A. Picart have followed in his footsteps. By 2000 the position had become the Vice Provost for Diversity and African American Affairs. The Vice Provost for Diversity and African American Affairs had the primary responsibility of forging a shared vision concerning the recruitment, retention, and graduation of a diverse student body. The Stephen G. Rea Papers (1976-1987) are comprised of 0.2 linear feet of photocopies of correspondence, certificates, newsclippings, programs, photographs, and other documents. These materials document Rea's involvement in ASME, Engineers Council, Golden Chain, and other NC State University student organizations. Also included are materials from internships, soccer, the Army National Guard, and the City of Raleigh. A native of Goldsboro, NC, Stephen G. Rea ("Steve") was a student at North Carolina State University during the 1970s and 1980s. He majored in mechanical engineering, and he received his BS in 1980 and MS in 1987. After leaving NC State Rea worked for Carolina Power & Light. He then worked more than 25 years for Heyward Incorporated, eventually becoming Senior Vice President of Power Capital Sales. For his service to the North Carolina power industry, the governor bestowed on Rea the Order of the Longleaf Pine. Less

The photographs in the Alumni Association subgroup of the University Archives Photograph Collection document the organization's various activities and programs, including awards, scholarships, fundraising, alumni weekends, and homecoming. Homecoming photographs include tailgates, parades and floats, pep rallies, and homecoming queens and contestants. Photographs in this subgroup range in date from the 1930s to the late 1990s, the majority are from the 1950s through the 1970s and 1990s. The majority of photographs in the subgroup are in black-and-white. The Alumni Association of the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanics Arts (North Carolina State University) was organized in June 1895, two years after the graduation of the first class. The association has worked from those earliest days to anticipate and fulfill the needs of the university. In 1987, as the university celebrated its centennial anniversary, the Alumni Association sponsored construction of the Alumni Centennial Gateway on Western Boulevard. The Alumni Association hosts various events including Homecoming, Legacy Luncheons, and Class Reunions. The mission of the NC State Alumni Association is to engage alumni and friends through programs and services that foster pride and enhance a lifelong connection to NC State. Less

The University Archives Photograph Collection, College of Education Photographs, 1910-1989 includes photographs of students, faculty, classes, research studies, and other activities related to the College of Engineering and Department of Psychology. Courses for training teachers were offered at North Carolina State College (North Carolina State University) by 1903, and the School of Education was established in 1927. After cutbacks during the Depression, the School of Education was reestablished in 1948 and included Agricultural Education, Psychology, Industrial Arts, Industrial Education, Recreation, Occupational Information and Guidance. By 1952, Mathematics and Science Education were added along with the Learning Resources Library. In 1960, the College became accredited through the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and has remained in good standing with NCATE ever since. Less

The collection of College of Textiles photographs depict the school's people, activities, and facilities from its early days in Tompkins Hall to a few recent photographs from Centennial Campus. Many photographs of equipment and machinery are included, as well as laboratories and other facilities. A portion of the collection also features students of the college and their academic activities, including class portraits and Style Shows. The North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (later North Carolina State University) was founded in 1887 and expanded the textiles program through the early 1910s, and beyond. The Textile Exposition and Style Show provided students the opportunity to display their work. Research efforts of the college have aided war efforts and contributed to medical developments. The college has also been closely involved with the textile and other industries through the extension and applied research programs. Less

The University Archives Photograph Collection, Continuing Education Photographs, 1935-1993, mainly includes photographs of students, faculty, and staff from the 1940s and 1950s in classes and workshops. There are several photographs of sport fishing, boats, and students at the Bogue Sound. Photographs from commencement ceremonies, truck driver training school, and the Encore Center are also included. In keeping with the land-grant tradition of the university, Continuing and Professional Education offers noncredit education and training to the people of North Carolina. CPE encompasses three sub-units: Office of Professional Development, The Computer Training Unit, and McKimmon Conference and Training Center, focusing on the development, facilitation, and delivery of continuing education and professional programs for business, industry, and other organizations. Broad-based national conferences on a variety of timely topics as well as intensive, highly focused seminars and workshops take advantage of the very best campus as well as non-campus instructional resources, while up-to-date computer training is also available on a variety of different levels and on a wide range of topics. Special efforts are made to meet the training needs of industry and government agencies through general as well as customized offerings. The university awards Continuing Education Units to participants in qualified programs. CEUs are part of a nationwide system that provides a uniform measure of attainment in noncredit educational programs. Less
