This collection contains photographs and 35mm slides donated by Dr. Scott Citino, whose career in veterinary medicine spanned over 40 years.
Dr. Scott Citino graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in microbiology and biochemistry and from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1983. He served as the Director of Veterinary Sciences at Zoo Miami (formerly named the Miami Metrozoo) from 1984 to 1990. From 1990 to 1993, he worked as an Associate Veterinarian and Hospital Administrator at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park in Washington, DC. Dr. Citino worked as a Senior Veterinarian at White Oak Conservation, a leading center dedicated to saving rare species through conservation, research, partnerships, and education in Yulee, Florida. He worked there for 31 years from 1993 to 2025. Citino became Senior Veterinarian Emeritus in early 2025.
Citino served as an adjunct clinical faculty member at both the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine and the University of Miami College of Medicine, Department of Comparative Pathology. He is on several advisory boards, including the International Rhino Foundation, and his work includes numerous publications, abstracts, and book chapters across multiple disciplines within zoo and wildlife medicine. Dr. Citino is the recipient of many awards, including the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine’s Distinguished Alumni Award and the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians’ Emil P. Dolensek Award 2007, and the Murray E. Fowler Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023. Dr. Citino’s research focused on anesthesia, disease processes (both infectious and non-infectious), and reproductive physiology in captive and free-ranging wildlife.
This collection contains photographs and 35mm slides depicting animals, surgical and necrospy procedures, and other images pertaining to zoological health practices.
