Frequently Asked Questions

Why are the Hillsborough Street doors closed?

The Hillsborough Street doors to the West (Erdahl-Cloyd) Wing of the D. H. Hill Library were closed in 1990 upon the recommendation of the faculty and student members of the University Library Committee, with the support of Public Safety, and the endorsement of the Faculty Senate and the Office of the Provost. This decision gained strong support after examining the safety and security of our community, university resources, and environmental and architectural changes to D. H. Hill Library. These doors are now used only for special access by persons with disabilities.
