Many organizations have a huge opportunity to take advantage of a new generation of open source analytical and data visualization tools.  However, because they're often built by hackers for hackers, these tools usually rely on a complex system of dependencies and concepts that can make them much more difficult to adopt than purpose-built tools from proprietary vendors.  So while the benefits in terms of cost savings and rapid innovation are huge, reaping the rewards often requires organizations to rethink processes and workflows as a software process.  For almost 5 years, O'Reilly Media has centered its publishing processes around tools like Jupyter, git, GitHub, Docker, and a host of open source packages. In this talk, Andrew Odewahn, Chief Technology Officer at O‚ÄôReilly Media, will talk about some of the opportunities and challenges encountered in making the shift from traditional media to software development.
