Category: Makerspace

Tags: None

Epic Games Director of User Experience (UX) Dr. Celia Hodent builds UX practices and strategies for video games.  She is passionate about using psychology and neuroscience knowledge to solve design problems and make sure the player experience is always enjoyable and emotional. In this workshop, Celia will discuss with the group a user experience framework for games. Participants will then play video games and analyze those games using the framework.

Dr. Celia Hodent holds a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology, initially specializing in the development of intelligence in children and adults. Early in her career, Celia stepped aside from academic research to work with an educational toy manufacturer, VTech. Celia joined Ubisoft Paris in 2008 to help the editorial team to translate neuroscience knowledge into game design features. She later worked for Ubisoft Montreal and LucasArts. She joined Epic Games in July 2013 to help guide the studio toward improved user experience practices.   Throughout her career, she has worked on products including Fortnite, Unreal Engine 4, Unreal Tournament, Assassin’s Creed, Star Wars: 1313 and Star Wars: First Assault

This program was made possible in part through a Diversity Mini-Grant from the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity.  Women are especially encouraged to participate. Workshops open to all NCSU faculty, students, and staff.
