About This Event

What does “fashion” mean, and what will our clothing be like in the future? Join us for a discussion of future fashion as it relates to trends and developments in technology, sustainability and design.

Our panelists:

  • Kate Annett-Hitchcock studies historical and cross-cultural inspirations on fashion design, clothing for health and well-being and fashion and disability.
  • Ashley Heller works at the intersection of technology and apparel design and is passionate about AI-driven pattern development and contributing to a more sustainable future in fashion.
  • Jeanine Fry is founder and CEO of LOOM3D, a textile innovation company spun out of her PhD research at NC State that pioneers seamless 3D weaving technology to eliminate waste and reimagine sustainable apparel manufacturing.

Wicked Problems, Wolfpack Solutions instructor Melissa Ramirez will facilitate the conversation, which will consider current issues and opportunities, career paths and ways NC State students can help shape the future of fashion.

After the panel discussion, there will be refreshments and a showcase of future fashion, including work by Jeanine Fry and Annie Hoyt and information from the Greater Good Textile Group. We will also have a pop-up library of sustainable fashion books and related materials from the Libraries’ Special Collections.

The “Hopeful Futures” series is part of the Long View Project and is co-sponsored by the Libraries and the Office of University Interdisciplinary Programs. This event on the future of fashion is organized in partnership with Wicked Problems, Wolfpack Solutions and the Global One Health Academy.
