About This Event
In this special screening, NC State alumna Darya Levchenko will introduce a series of 10 contemporary short animated films by Ukrainian filmmakers. With films ranging from Deep Water, about a lonely middle-aged mermaid who develops a passionate crush on a man to DeepLove, which uses absurdity and black humor to chronicle a city during decommunization, this collection of films features a wide variety of topics and animation styles. Total runtime 1 hour, 11 minutes.
We hope you will join us in celebrating artists from Ukraine who are using animation to tell their stories. We are especially delighted to have Darya Levchenko as our guest, who will provide attendees with historical perspective and context of the films through a short introduction and post-screening Q&A.
The Global Film Series is a partnership between the NC State University Libraries and NC State Global. This screening is co-presented with NC State’s Film Studies Program, English Department, and Interdisciplinary Studies.
About Darya: Ms. Levchenko holds an MA in English with a concentration in Film Studies from North Carolina State University in Raleigh and a double MA in Foreign Languages from Zaporizhzhia National University, Ukraine and Tallinn University, Estonia. She is the program coordinator of the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival in Kyiv, Ukraine and a Head Programmer for New Talents of the PÖFF Shorts (Black Nights Film Festival) in Tallinn, Estonia. Darya is an alumna of the Fulbright, Edmund S. Muskie and Erasmus academic exchange programs and a 2018 Full Frame and 2023 Cannes Makers Fellow.
