Defending STEM: Preparing for Unique Cybersecurity Threats Facing STEM Research Communities

The 2017 IT Littleton Seminar will feature Dr. Brian Beaton. Dr. Beaton is the Director of the Center for Expressive Technologies at California Polytechnic State University. He will address the unique cybersecurity threats facing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) research communities, as well as those faced by STEM-focused universities which support younger, “born networked” STEM professions such as data science. Beaton will argue for a greater attention to the cybersecurity dimensions of attacks on STEM and call for a deeper conversation about STEM’s material and infrastructural vulnerabilities. He will also share projects and insights from the Center for Expressive Technologies.
