ChemDraw Professional

ChemDraw Professional is a tool for creating chemical drawings for use in publications and electronic lab notebooks (ELNs), and for querying chemical databases such as SciFinder Scholar (more information).

ChemDraw Professional is available to NC State students, faculty, and staff through a university-wide site license provided by the NCSU Libraries, the Office of Information Technology, the College of Sciences, the College of Education, the College of Textiles, and the departments of Chemistry, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Forest Biomaterials, Materials Science and Engineering, and Plant Biology. You can download the software and install it on your work or home computer. This software is also available on all desktop PC computers in the NCSU Libraries.

Our site license agreement with ChemDraw allows access ONLY to current NCSU students, faculty, and staff (Unity ID login required).

Steps for downloading and installing ChemDraw Professional:

1. Download ChemDraw:

  • Follow this link to download ChemDraw Professional (ONLY for current NCSU students, faculty, and staff). Note: Please use Internet Explorer or Firefox to download the software.

2. Account Verification

  • Submit your email address for site license verification.
  • Click "Continue" on account verification page.

3. Create a PerkinElmer Account

  • Click on the registration link on the right side of the page to create a PerkinElmer Account. You must create this account in order to download ChemDraw.

4. Download

  • You will see a web page with two sets of download links, one for Windows, the other for Macintosh.
  • Click the appropriate download link (Windows or Mac) to start downloading.
  • Depending on your internet speed, it takes a few minutes to download.
  • An email will be sent to you with a serial number and a registration code (Mac only).

5. Installation

  • For Windows users: Double click the .exe file to start installation. You will be asked for your name, email address, and serial number upon installation. Fill in all the information, and click "activate over internet". Click "Next" to proceed with the installation. You don't need to change any configurations unless you are an advanced ChemDraw user.
  • For Mac users: Locate the installation file you just downloaded. Double click to begin installation. Click "Continue" to proceed to next steps. You will be asked for your name, serial number, and registration code during the installation process.
