Social Media as a Menu

Social Media as a Menu

Summary

Our project is a "menu" connected with conductive tape to a makey makey that is connected to a laptop. There are four different "categories" on the menu with corresponding conductive tape. Touching each one opens a web browser and filters Twitter according to what is pressed.

Lyrical Skylines

Lyrical Skylines

Summary

Visualizing renowned rapper Nas' rhymes and lyrics throughout his career by way of quantified 3D models. Each model represents the rhyming styles and methods used in albums on opposite ends of Nas' discography.  Each row of buildings is a song, with the final row following the white line being an average from all of the songs (in effect representing the whole album). Use the key to recognize which colors represent which category. How has Nas changed as a lyricist over time?

Sweater w/ Temperature Sensor

Sweater w/ Temperature Sensor

Summary

Sweater with temperature sensor made from the LilyPad Arduino and sewed together using conductible thread. As temperature increases, more lights will turn on up to 3 lights.

Musical Chair

Musical Chair

Summary

This chair was designed for the deaf and mute community. It was designed so that as each symbol is pressed a different message is conveyed to the caregiver. A light will turn on in response to the sounds produced, thus allowing the child or user to know the chair sent the message.

The Titanic: Light Telegraphy and 3D Symbolism

The Titanic: Light Telegraphy and 3D Symbolism

Summary

Using an Arduino board and 3D printed objects, we will examine the historical significance of the Titanic's final messages over the telegraph.

Arduino Sound Sensor

Arduino Sound Sensor

Summary

We used an arduino sound sensor to detect fluctuations in sound which then caused the LEDs to turn on based on different volumes that we coded for

Zombies in Raleigh

Zombies in Raleigh

Summary

In our project, we created a text-based game and incorporated 3D Printed Controllers to take the place of the mouse. The mouse is controlled independently by 5 different figures, one for up, down, left, right, and to click the mouse to advance in the game. The figures are meant to disrupt the normal flow of game-play and force users to enjoy the actual process of playing the game as opposed to the content of the game itself. The game is well-made, with images showing different parts of NC State's campus in order to help users visualize the path they are taking in the game

Study Harduino

Study Harduino

Summary

We programmed this Aruino board to become a study mechanism. Studies show that you are most productive in your study efforts if you study for 45-50 minutes and then take a 10-15 minute break. We programmed the board to turn a light on for 50 minutes, which signifies that you should be studying. Then, the light will cut off for 10 minutes which signifies a break period. This allows you to separate yourself from your phone and allow you to focus on your studies instead of the potential distractions your phone creates.
