The Special Collections GEA is a 20-hour per week position that primarily supports archival processing, with some public services reference and outreach/instruction as well with Special Collections.
The GEA works with colleagues in the Libraries to support various work in the Special Collections Research Center, including, but not limited to:
Increase discoverability and access to archival and manuscript collections by arranging and describing collections in accordance with library and archival standards. This includes writing collection descriptions, producing finding aids using ArchivesSpace, and creating MARC records in Worldcat and the Libraries’ public catalog.
Classroom instruction and outreach activities (possible secondary duties)
This position reports to the collections manager in Special Collections, and will either work in D.H. Hill Jr. Library and/or the Administrative Services Annex building on campus. The GEA will work closely with peers in Special Collections, including the curator and university archivist.
The graduate student selected for this assistantship should demonstrate an interest in Special Collections work
Open to GSSP- eligible Public History students on a graduate assistantship enrolled for the 2025-26 school year
Appointment follows the academic year 2025-26 (August to May)
20 hour/week commitment during each semester
$18,000 stipend, paid out biweekly
The Appointee will be eligible for GSSP (https://grad.ncsu.edu/students/gssp/) benefits, subject to approval by the Graduate School
This is a 1-year appointment with the possibility of renewal for 2026-27.
