Workshop Description

Digital game design is no longer just for computer programmers; increasingly, gaming practices and game design principles are being seen in other sectors such as healthcare, marketing, and education. Learning what games can be used for and how to make them is more relevant than ever. In this workshop, you will learn about three beginner-friendly game design programs (No coding experience needed!), the benefits and drawbacks of each, and some example use cases for these tools. The second half of the workshop will be dedicated to learning how to use Twine, an open-source tool for telling interactive, nonlinear stories. Games can be used to explore narratives, systems, processes, and more. Register today!

Sarah Evans is a Ph.D. candidate from North Carolina State University's Communication Rhetoric and Digital Media program who conducts rigorous qualitative and critical studies of marginalized gaming communities and their attendant media technologies. She is interested in addressing, and helping to alleviate, the inequities associated with the ascendancy of digital gaming into various other domains.
