Knowledge Requirements: Required Reading List

List dated October 2009

The following is a list of required reference materials that the resident/fellow is expected to learn with retention and comprehension. Pertinent sections of these resources should be studied and consulted throughout the resident’s training. The Knowledge Requirements Required Reading List does not include all references from which Certifying Examination questions may be drawn, as other textbooks and periodicals contain pertinent information. Knowledge of basic and applied anatomy and physiologic principles is assumed.

Textbooks

General Physiology – an edition of one of the following, published within the last 10 years:

Veterinary ECC

Veterinary ECC Technical Manuals—at least one from the appropriate group:

Human Intensive Care Textbook – at least one

Fluid Therapy / Acid-Base / Electrolyte Textbook – an edition of one of the following, published within the last 10 years:

General Veterinary Internal Medicine – at least one from the appropriate group:

Veterinary Surgery – at least one from the appropriate group:

Veterinary Anesthesia – at least one:

Mechanical Ventilation – at least one:

Veterinary Pharmacology – at least one:

Veterinary Toxicology – at least one:

Veterinary Clinical Pathology – at least one:

Specific Areas of Internal Medicine – for Small Animal Trainees only – each is required:

Veterinary Neurology – at least one:
