Instructions for connecting Morae Observer for remote observation of usability tests

BEGIN IN THE USABILITY LAB:

  1. Start up the Usability Lab computer
    • Login as 'uselab' (staff will give you the password after you are approved for use of the lab)
    • Log onto LIBRARY

  2. Start Morae Recorder
Morae Recorder must be running before any Observers are able to connect to the recording machine

  3. Check Recording Settings
Click the dark blue 'Modify Recording Details' button in the middle column of the screen, and make sure that the 'Recording Start' and 'Recording Stop' settings are as you'd like them. For instance, if the Observer machine is to start and stop the test, then 'Using Observer' must be selected for both settings.

  4. Click the red button to begin recording (or to wait for the observer to begin the recording). The Recorder program will disappear from the desktop, but will be running in the background.

AT THE OBSERVER COMPUTER:

  1. Ask Learning Commons staff to log you into the GIS workstation on the right.

  2. Start Morae Observer

  3. Enter the IP address of the Recording computer in the Usability Lab (152.1.209.163)
You should see a message at the bottom of the screen that you have successfully connected to the Recording computer.

  4. If the Observer will be controlling the stop and start of the recording, you can begin and stop the recording by clicking the red button at the upper left of the toolbar.
