Department Background
1947: Department of Industrial and Rural Recreation established in the School (later, College) of Education
1958: Department of Industrial and Rural Recreation renamed the Department of Recreation and Park Administration
1967: Department transferred from the School of Eduation to the School of Forest Resources (later, College of Natural Resources)
1970: Masters' program in Recreation and Park Administration created
1977: Department became the first nation-wide to receive accreditation from the Council on Accreditation of the National Recreation and Park Association
1989: Department of Recreation and Park Administration renamed the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management
