Welcome to LOBO, the Library Online Basic Orientation at NC State!

This tutorial will familiarize you with the college research process as well as the resources provided by the NCSU Libraries.

What You Need to Know about LOBO:

1. LOBO is designed to help you complete your assignments that require library research. Because library research is complex, we've divided LOBO into several sections, listed along the left side of the screen. To be successful, you should use each section of LOBO when it is useful in completing your assignment. In other words, do not try to complete all of LOBO in one sitting; take your assignment, and LOBO, one step at a time.

2. If your instructor asks you to answer the questions throughout LOBO, be sure to answer them with a particular research assignment in mind. If you do not have a specific assignment in mind, many of the questions will not be meaningful to you!

3. You don't have to complete the modules of LOBO in order. If your instructor asks you to work on a section, and you haven't worked on the previous section, don't panic! Your instructor probably has a good reason for asking you to work on that particular section. Remember, LOBO is designed to work with your research assignment, so do the parts that make sense with where you are in the research process.

4. To save your responses to questions throughout LOBO, be sure that you're logged in. To add an answer, click the "Add to Worksheet" button below each question blank. To check that your answers were saved, click the "View Worksheet" link at the top of each screen!

We welcome your comments and suggestions for improvement. Click the Ask a Librarian link at the top right corner of your screen to get help or send us a message at any time!
