Wartime Classes Golden Anniversary Endowment

In August 1995, Dr. Robert McAllister (NC State Class of 1947) proposed that the NC State University Class of 1947 give a library endowment as its Golden Anniversary Gift to the university. A Wartime Classes Committee, including representation from the NC State Classes of 1944, 1945, 1946, and 1947, was formed in October 1995. The committee led the classes in establishing the Wartime Classes Golden Anniversary Endowment, which generates income supporting the NCSU Libraries' collections in all formats. The endowment's founding was announced at the 1996 and 1997 Alumni Weekends. The NC State Class of 1948 also chose support for the Wartime Classes Golden Anniversary Endowment as its Golden Anniversary Gift to the university.

In recognition of the classes' support, the NCSU Libraries named a student study room in the main library the World War II Classes Student Study Room. Completed in 1998, the refurbished room contains a framed copy of the Wartime Classes Golden Anniversary Endowment bookplate, a list of all known NC State alumni and students who died in World War II, and several World War II-era photos taken at NC State. The World War II Classes Student Study Room is located on the second floor of the main library's South Tower.
