About Endowments
Many benefactors make lasting donations to the NCSU Libraries by establishing collection endowments:
permanent, named funds that generate on-going income to support purchase of materials for the library's
collections. Collection endowments may be founded with a gift or pledge totaling $15,000 or more, or with
a planned gift. Pledges may be paid over a period of up to five years.
You may name a collection endowment for yourself, or you may honor or memorialize a family member or
friend. A customized bookplate is placed in all items acquired with a fund's income. Use of the income is
governed by an agreement between the library and the donor.
The Libraries' Incubator Endowment is an alternative for benefactors
who want to support the
library's collections, but who are not ready to make an investment of $15,000 or more in the institution.
The Incubator Endowment is made up of named accounts of $1,000 or more. Its annual interest income is
allocated proportionately among the accounts and is spent upon collections purchases for the library.
Accounts may support a specific collection or the NCSU Libraries' collections in general.
In addition to endowment gifts, gifts of books and other materials can make an important impact
upon the library's collections. The Friends of the Library of North Carolina State University may
accept in-kind gifts of books, manuscripts, and similar materials. The Special Collections Research Center
may accept gifts of major scholarly value.
