Carousel of Knowledge Kickoff Event
On September 29, 2005, hundreds of students, faculty, staff, and community members came to the
Brickyard to celebrate the kick-off of the NCSU Libraries' $10 million capital campaign.
They enjoyed free popcorn, cotton candy, and lemonade; shot baskets with the men's and women's
basketball teams; and of course, rode on our Carousel of Knowledge! We were honored with visits by
special guests including Chancellor James Oblinger, Provost Larry Nielsen, Coach Herb Sendek,
campaign co-chair Cyma Rubin, the NC State Cheerleaders, and Mr. Wuf.
Along a "Yellow Brick Road" inside our tent, librarians and Friends of the Library volunteers
staffed booths that raised awareness of the Libraries' priorities for the future as well as several
exciting current initiatives. Students and staff learned about the renovations
going on at D. H. Hill Library, including the technology-rich Learning
Commons, the new Special Collections Research Center;
upcoming literary events; and the Name a Brick program.
Door prize drawings were held throughout the afternoon, with prizes donated by Raleigh businesses
and members of the Friends of the Library, including iPods, gift certificates, gift baskets, and
other great items. Please join us in thanking our generous
prize donors!
The Libraries' capital campaign will help fund initiatives supporting NC State students and faculty by:
- Improving and expanding library space
- Building outstanding collections
- Advancing digital library services
- Recruiting and retaining excellent librarians
