Nicholas Gennett has spent much of his career working on workforce development issues at community colleges primarily in North Carolina and Virginia. He led the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College to meet the difficulties of retraining displaced textile workers for the new economy after the Pillowtex closings in 2004.

This interview is organized around several major themes: Gennett's career and background; the closing of Pillowtex and the fallout of that; the Pillowtex Project and Gennett's role therein; the specific areas in which RCCC was retraining former Pillowtex workers; and the anticipated positive effects of the North Carolina Research Campus.
