A North Carolina native, Myra Beatty has worked for over 21 years in economic workforce development. She currently works as a Workforce Policy Associate at the Department of Commerce. It was in this capacity that Beatty led the rapid response team in the wake of Pillowtex's bankruptcy and mill closings in Kannapolis, NC.

This interview is organized around several major themes: Ms. Beatty's experience in workforce development; the specific circumstances surrounding the closing of Kannapolis's Pillowtex plant; the comparison of the Kannapolis crisis with other closings Ms. Beatty has witnessed; and the activities of the rapid response team.
