Larry Hayer grew up the child of millworkers in Kannapolis, NC. He left Kannapolis for a career as a self-described "government bureaucrat" working up and down the Atlantic seaboard. Upon retirement, Hayer returned to Kannapolis and now works part time as a reference librarian at the Hinson History Room at the Kannapolis library.

This interview is organized around several themes: Mr. Hayer's background; his impressions on the subject of Kannapolis's history; his work in the library; and his feelings about Kannapolis's future prospects.
