Historical Note

The Greater Cheyenne Greenway group began as a 1990 Earth Day project to clean trash from Crow Creek. This group subsequently formed the Crow Creek Greenway Committee and developed a plan for building a bike path along the creek. The City of Cheyenne Planning Office supported the idea of a community-wide greenway by hiring a greenway coordinator and lobbying the Laramie County commissioners for capital improvement tax revenue. The county commissioners approved the greenway project for inclusion on the tax ballot, and in 1991 the Greenway Technical Review Committee began preparing the Greenway Development Plan. The City of Cheyenne formally adopted the plan on July 13, 1992. Five phases of greenway construction had been completed by 1999, with more planned through 2002.
